CMS Takes Action to Lower Out of Pocket Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Costs
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a proposed rule that would make updates to the Medicare Advantage (MA) and Medicare Part D programs that would lower out-of-pocket prescription drug costs for beneficiaries with Medicare Part D and improve price transparency and market competition. The proposed rule would improve beneficiaries’ experiences with MA and Part D, with a strong emphasis on individuals who are dually eligible for Medicare and Medicaid. Read more.
Medicare Limits Coverage of Costly Alzheimer's Drug
The CMS announced that it will limit coverage of Biogen's costly Alzheimer's disease drug Aduhelm to patients enrolled in approved randomized clinical trials. "While there may be the potential for promise with this treatment, there's also the potential for serious harm to patients," CMS Chief Medical Officer Lee Fleisher said, though Biogen said the decision "will exclude almost all patients who may benefit." United HealthCare | Notification of Information on the Safe Disposal of Prescription Medication for In-Home Health Assessments
As of Jan. 1, 2022, agents are required to provide consumers with information on how to safely dispose of prescription medication when completing an in-home Health Assessment. Keeping old medication in the home can be unsafe and can lead to misuse or being taken accidentally. Unused or expired medication should be disposed of as soon as possible. These regulations are designed to improve safety and reduce issues related to unused prescription medication. Read more.
