The Biden Administration, through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), announced a new model aimed at improving cancer care for Medicare patients and lowering health care costs. Read more.
Lowering Medicare age to 60 would increase coverage -- but also spending
Policymakers often propose lowering the Medicare eligibility age from 65 to 60 as a way to expand health care coverage. It would help accomplish this goal but also carry a hefty price tag, according to research from the Urban Institute with funding by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Read more.

Aetna | CMS Memo Clarifies Disaster SEP
On June 22, 2022, CMS issued a memo titled “Clarification of the Special Enrollment Period (SEP) for Government Entity-Declared Disaster or Other Emergency.” The memo clarified that the COVID-19 pandemic does not currently qualify for the SEP for Government Entity-Declared Disaster or Other Emergency (disaster SEP); however, it does qualify for the Exceptional Circumstances SEP.
