Aries Insurance Agent Services, a division of URL Insurance Group.

It may feel early, but we’re already halfway to the next Open Enrollment, which makes now a great time to start preparing your clients for upcoming changes.

Here are several key updates to keep in mind as you plan ahead:

  • Premium Tax Credit repayment caps have expired
For the 2026 tax year, clients who underestimate their income and receive excess premium tax credits may be required to repay the full amount. It’s more important than ever to remind clients to report income and household changes throughout the year to avoid unexpected tax liability.
  • Shortened Open Enrollment period for 2027 coverage
Open Enrollment will run October 15 – December 15, with a January 1 effective date. There will no longer be an extension into January or a February 1 effective date option.
  • Advanced Premium Tax Credits (APTC) remain unavailable – for now
At this time, enhanced advance tax credits are not available. We’ll continue to keep you informed of any legislative or regulatory updates that could impact this.
  • All on-exchange Bronze and Catastrophic plans are HSA-eligible
This creates new opportunities for cost-conscious clients who want to pair lower premiums with tax-advantaged savings.
  • Certain Special Enrollment Periods (SEPs) have expired
Some SEPs tied to income changes and immigrant eligibility have expired. This makes proactive communication and timely enrollments even more critical.
  • Cross-selling opportunities
With rising medical costs, now is a great time to explore additional solutions for your clients. Ancillary products like accident, hospital indemnity, and critical illness coverage can help fill gaps and provide added financial protection.
