Bradford Regional Medical Center Closing

Highmark is aware that Bradford Regional Medical Center, including The Pavilion and the 95-bed skilled nursing facility, and that the 20-bed inpatient unit and emergency department will be closing on May 17, 2026.

Highmark plans to notify any affected members who have accessed services through the inpatient unit or emergency department in the last year and will assist members with coordinating care at other facilities.

Q: What is happening with Bradford Regional Medical Center?
A: Kaleida Health has announced that Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, or LECOM, will acquire the Bradford Regional Medical Center campus, including The Pavilion and the 95-bed skilled nursing facility. Under LECOM, the 95-bed skilled nursing facility will stay open, but the 20-bed inpatient unit and emergency department will close on May 17. Kaleida plans to work with LECOM to continue primary and specialty outpatient care.

Highmark plans to notify any affected members who have accessed services through the inpatient unit or emergency department in the last year and will assist members with coordinating care at other facilities.

A: Approximately 4,700 Highmark members in southwestern New York and northwestern Pennsylvania have accessed services through the inpatient unit or emergency department at Bradford Regional Medical Center in the last year.

Q: What should members do if they need emergency care?
A. In an emergency situation, members should always go to the nearest emergency department. Emergency care is considered in-network no matter where members go.
