Important Update: Medicare Advantage Employer Group (EGWP) Premium Refund Policy Change

This notification is to inform you of an upcoming policy change regarding premium refunds for Highmark Medicare Advantage Employer Group Waiver Plans (EGWP) in New York State.

Previous Policy: Historically, for members enrolled in a Highmark New York Medicare Advantage EGWP plan who passed away between the 1st and the 15th of the month, Highmark would issue a refund for the premium covering the entire month of their passing.

Revised Policy: Effective June 1, 2026, Highmark will no longer be refunding the premium for the month of a member's death, even if the death occurs within the first 15 days of the month.

What Remains Unchanged: Please be assured that Highmark will continue to refund any premium that was paid for coverage periods beyond the member's last day of eligibility.

Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield and Highmark Blue Shield are Medicare Advantage HMO, PPO, and/or Part D plans with a Medicare contract. Enrollment in these plans depends on contract renewal.
