Capital is introducing a new preauthorization program for certain genetic tests that analyze a person’s DNA to help detect inherited health risks or understand how someone might react to certain medications.
A team of doctors will review these test requests to make sure they’re the right fit and supported by the latest medical research. This includes tests like hereditary cancer screenings, medication-response tests (pharmacogenomics), and carrier screenings for inherited conditions.
Because these tests can be expensive and very specialized, having expert review helps ensure our members get the care they need, avoids unnecessary testing, and helps manage costs for employers and their employees.

According the Centers for Disease and Prevention (CDC), about two in five Americans will develop diabetes sometime during their life, impacting their health in ways ranging from vision damage to increased risk of heart attack or stroke to reduced life expectancy. The sweeping harm diabetes does to America’s collective health is matched by the financial toll it takes.

The disease costs the U.S. $413 billion a year (in 2022) in medical costs and lost productivity.* That total includes $106 billion in lost productivity in the workplace (absenteeism, reduced productivity while at work, disability, premature mortality). It’s likely your business is shouldering a portion of that cost.
Capital Blue Cross can help lessen the impact of diabetes on your business’ bottom line. We offer a knowledgeable and accessible care management team with real people to help your employees through the challenges of managing their diabetes, as well as other convenient diabetes-management programs
that can help employees lose dangerous pounds, reduce their reliance on prescriptions, lower their blood sugar, and save in medical costs.
