Important: Vision plan transition for ACA renewals
Beginning in May 2022, UPMC Health Plan will begin transitioning current ACA clients, upon renewal, from UPMC Vision Advantage to UPMC Vision Care. Your clients will continue to have high-quality coverage, competitive monthly premiums, and rich vision benefits.

  • Access to a national network of more than 50,000 providers through National Vision Administrators (NVA®)
  • No frame towers or restrictions on purchases of everyday (dress) frames
  • Fixed pricing for lenses and lens add-ons
  • Many customizable lens options to meet members’ needs
  • Help estimating eyewear costs prior to purchase
  • Access to an in-network mail-order contact lens service through Contact Fill
  • Discounts on LASIK vision correction from the UPMC Eye Center, TLC Vision, QualSight, and LASIK Centers of America
  • Discounts on eyewear and contact lenses through the NVA EYEESSENTIAL Discount Plan after members use their benefits1
  • Award-winning customer service from UPMC Health Plan2
Plan advantages
  • Members can see a vision provider when their benefits renew (based on their renewal date). Some plans have a two-year eligibility stipulation, so members would have to wait two benefit periods to be eligible again for vision services. Others plans provide eligibility each benefit period.3
  • There are six plan designs with copay and no copay options on exams.
  • Members can receive care from a nonparticipating provider. The coverage includes a fixed reimbursement for exams, frames, lenses (single, bifocal, and trifocal), contact lens fittings, and contact lens materials. There is no coverage for lens add-ons such as tint or anti-reflective coating.
