Capital BlueCross 2015 Group Product Bulletin

Effective January 1, 2015, the Federally Facilitated Marketplace (FFM) will be administering all SHOP offerings online at www.healthcare.gov. Small Group SHOP portfolio remains the same as 2014 and includes eight medical products each with a packaged Rx product. Important Aetna updates for cases effective 1/1/15

Over the years, there have been a number of changes to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. One of these changes will take effect on January 1, 2015: Medical plans will no longer be required to provide Certificates of Creditable Coverage. Producers who have completed the training and registration process to sell on the Marketplace should email copies of their certificates and their FFM User ID to cbcproducerlicensing@capbluecross.com or fax them to 717-540-2282. Producers who need to complete the training and registration can reference the Producers in the Federally Funded Marketplace attachment.

Blue Cross Northeastern PA

Producers who have completed the FFM certification will receive a “Certificate of Completion.” E-mail a copy of that certificate and the National Producer Number (NPN) that was used to register with CMS to Broker.Submission@bcnepa.com and Kerri.McKeown@bcnepa.com.

Blues fear high PPACA subsidy program costs

One health insurer says administering a major Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) subsidy program will be much more expensive than Obama administration officials think. The program -- the cost-sharing reduction (CSR) program -- cuts out-of-pocket medical expenses for low-income exchange users. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is already sending CSR cash to insurers, based on limited information about the enrollees. In 2015, the insurers and CMS are supposed to reconcile any gaps between what CMS paid in 2014 and what CMS should have paid. Click here to read more.

Walmart plans one-stop health coverage shopping

Walmart is taking one-stop shopping to another area: health insurance. The world's largest retailer plans to work with DirectHealth.com, an online health insurance comparison site and agency, to allow shoppers to compare coverage options and enroll in Medicare plans or the public exchange plans created under the Affordable Care Act. PPACA rules send consumers to short-term health market

Many U.S. consumers who buy short-term health insurance online say the new market rules are pushing them away from major medical coverage. Analysts at eHealth (Nasdaq:EHTH), a Web broker, surveyed 394 of its short-term medical buyers in mid-August. The company found that 70 percent of the short-term medical buyers considered buying major medical coverage, and that 41 percent actually tried to apply for major medical coverage.
