The different signs and symptoms of heart attacks: A survivor's story
According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, chronic stress including family difficulties, job stress, loneliness, and other such triggers have a negative impact on the heart.
“People can misread heart attack signs and symptoms or convince themselves that they are too healthy to be having a heart attack,” said Dr. Jeremy Wigginton, Chief Medical Officer at Capital Blue Cross. “But it is a myth to think that heart attacks are just a problem for men, the aged, or the unfit.”

March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month
According to the American Cancer Society, colorectal (colon or rectal) cancer is the third most common cancer diagnosed in both men and women in the United States (excluding skin cancers), and the World Health Organization lists colorectal cancer as the second-leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide.
The recommended age for colorectal cancer screening was reduced in 2021 from 50 years old to 45. While the rate of colorectal cancer has decreased over the last two decades in older populations, it has increased in younger adults (ages 20 to 40).
Fortunately, colorectal cancer is one of the most preventable and treatable cancers when found early. That's why preventive screening is so important. Capital Blue Cross preventive care services offer coverage for members for the following colorectal cancer screenings:
Computed tomographic (CT) Colonography, every five years.
Stool-based deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) [FIT-DNA Test], every one to three years.
Colonoscopy, every 10 years.
Most benefit plans allow routine preventive care services to be scheduled at least annually, which may be available to the member at no cost when provided by an in-network provider. Member eligibility and benefits should be verified to confirm member has coverage for preventive care services.
