Starting April 1st, all Medical Assistance (MA) and CHIP recipients must complete an annual renewal to keep coverage. Pennie is here to ensure continuous coverage for Pennsylvanians that have lost or are losing MA coverage, but we need your help!  

 Background:  

• Due to federal COVID-19 relief efforts, Pennsylvania was allowed to maintain coverage for Medical Assistance (MA) (also known as Medicaid) and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) for most people even if they no longer qualified. 
  
  
• The Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023 set April 1, 2023, as the end of maintained MA and CHIP coverage regardless of eligibility. After April 1, 2023, the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS) will return to normal eligibility processes.  
  
  
• Pennie and DHS are working to ensure that qualified Pennsylvanians have access to health coverage either through Medical Assistance, the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), or affordable, high-quality coverage through Pennie.
