As a reminder, to comply with state and federal regulations, an Authorized Representative form must be completed and filed with Geisinger Health Plan for any member whose PHI you wish to access. Completing this form and providing it when prompted helps protect our broker partners and our members’ personal information.
|
This rule applies to both fully insured commercial and Medicare members. The form must be completed and signed by the member, naming you as an Authorized Representative.
The Authorized Representative form is attached to this email in both English and Spanish, along with instructions on how to create a digital ID to sign the form electronically.

MyCode data used to discover genetic changes that protect against liver disease
|
|
|
Using data from Geisinger’s MyCode® Community Health Initiative, researchers have discovered genetic changes associated with protection against liver disease.
In the largest sequencing study to date on the genetic basis of liver health, scientists at Regeneron Genetics Center and Geisinger sequenced the exomes of more than 540,000 people across five ancestry groups and multiple cohorts, including MyCode and the UK Biobank.

Five Geisinger hospitals recognized as ‘high-performing’
|

|
Five Geisinger hospitals have been recognized for high performance in the 2022 U.S. News & World Report “Best Hospitals” rankings.
Overall, Geisinger hospitals received high performance rankings for a variety of specific procedures and conditions, including:
- Geisinger Medical Center: pulmonology and lung surgery, heart failure, kidney failure, stroke, COPD, colon cancer surgery, maternity care, abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, heart attack
- Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center: pulmonology and lung surgery, heart failure, kidney failure, stroke, COPD, heart attack, hip replacement
- Geisinger Community Medical Center: heart failure, kidney failure, stroke, COPD, knee replacement
- Geisinger St. Luke’s Hospital: hip fracture care
- Geisinger Bloomsburg Hospital: maternity care

Fast facts:
- The House will vote on the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 following the Senate’s passage of the package last weekend. The bill is anticipated to pass into law with provisions allowing the secretary of HHS to negotiate drug prices for Medicare beneficiaries and extending American Rescue Plan ACA subsidies through 2025.
- NAHU responded to a request for information from CMS regarding various aspects of the Medicare Advantage program. This is the first response that NAHU plans on submitting, as we wanted to make it clear that the Medicare marketing final rule issued in May would threaten the success of the Medicare Advantage program.
- On Aug. 10, a federal judge in New York dismissed one of the legal challenges that sought to roll back key pieces of the No Surprises Act that protects patients from surprise out-of-network bills.
- On Aug. 11, NAHU CEO Janet Trautwein testified in front of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners during NAIC’s summer meeting. She discussed the recent Medicare marketing final rule issued in May.
- Recent guidance from the IRS decreases the ACA affordability percentage significantly from 9.61% for 2022 to 9.12% for 2023. This is the lowest number in the history of the ACA’s affordability percentage. Read more in this week’s Compliance Now blog post.
