  • HHS extended the public health emergency by an additional 90 days, setting a new expiration date of July 15. This impacts several areas, including coverage of COVID-19 testing and treatment, as well as the “Medicaid unwinding” period.
  • The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit reinstated the Biden administration’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate for federal workers, but the ruling is not effective immediately.
  • Last year, CMS Administrator Chiquita Brooks-LaSure announced that the agency would craft a “strategic plan” focused on improving health equity, expanding coverage and improving health outcomes. This week, CMS released a list of “cross-cutting initiatives” (CCIs) to carry out the  strategic plan.
  • The administration released a proposed rule last week to fix the ACA's family glitch. On Thursday, April 21, at 1:00 p.m. ET, members of NAHU's Compliance Corner Committee will review the proposed rule in detail, analyzing precisely what the regulation would do if finalized, what to expect in the near future, potential legal challenges and more.
