The new federal prohibition on surprise billing went into effect on Jan. 1. Providers are now prohibited from charging out-of-network rates for emergency care, air ambulance services and all care by an out-of-network provider in an in-network facility. A new FAQ was published last week by HHS, DOL and Treasury detailing how that process will work.
There is a new SEP available to lower-income consumers who have an estimated annual household income at or below 150% of the federal poverty level, allowing them to enroll in ACA marketplace coverage any time, if eligible.
