Keystone 65 HMO earns Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services 5-star rating!
We are pleased to share some exciting news! Two Independence Medicare Advantage plans have been rated among the nation’s best by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) 2022 Star Ratings. Independence’s Keystone 65 HMO plan earned a prestigious 5 out of 5 stars — making it the largest plan in the Philadelphia five-county region to earn 5 stars. The organization’s Personal Choice 65SM PPO plan received 4.5 stars, CMS’s second-highest rating.
Earning 5 stars is a significant accomplishment and one that less than five percent of all Medicare Advantage plans across the country have attained. Published annually, the CMS Star Ratings provide a scorecard on Medicare Advantage plan quality and performance measures such as member compliance with preventative care and screening recommendations, chronic condition management, customer service, and access to care.
Independence earned high Star Ratings for several reasons, including:
- improving clinical scores and reducing utilization despite office closures during COVID-19.
- enhancing medication adherence through proactive member support.
- investing in products that provided enhanced supplemental benefits.
- providing a good customer experience during the pandemic.
- waiving the cost of COVID-19 copays for acute inpatient hospital stays, as well as many other COVID-19-related services.
- helping members schedule COVID-19 vaccination appointments at regional pharmacies and certain health systems.
- opening Independence LIVE as a vaccination site in a collaboration with vybe urgent care centers.
- having our registered nurse health coaches available 24/7 for member questions.
Why the ratings matter
The 5-star rating enables Independence to offer better benefits to our Medicare members. It also enables Independence to offer Medicare Advantage plans year-round. This means that people on Medicare can switch to an Independence plan outside of the Annual Election Period.
