Lock-In and a Look Ahead

With 2021 Open Enrollment (OEP) behind us, and 2022 Annual Enrollment (AEP) quickly approaching, we are working hard to improve your experience and become your plan of choice.

Special Enrollment Periods (SEP) Reminders

A SEP is a period outside of the ICEP, AEP or MA OEP when beneficiaries can enroll, based solely on life events that qualify for a SEP period.

Scenarios that may grant a SEP include, but are not limited to:

  • The beneficiary receives Low-Income Subsidy (LIS), which is a Medicare program designed to help those with limited resources/income pay for their Medicare prescription drugs, premiums, deductibles, co-payments, etc.
  • The beneficiary has moved out of the service area.
  • The beneficiary resides in an affected service area where Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has declared individual and public assistance is available.

We are always working to ensure you are equipped and ready to help beneficiaries who qualify for a SEP. To do this, we alert our broker partners of any newly declared Special Enrollment Periods with email notices sent to brokers who are licensed in the impacted areas.

Initial Coverage Election Period (ICEP) Reminder

Beneficiaries who are first eligible for Medicare have a seven-month Initial Enrollment Period to sign up for Part A and/or Part B. If eligible for Medicare, beneficiaries can sign up during the seven-month period that:

  • Begins three months before the month in which the member turned 65.
  • Includes the month in which the member turned 65.
  • Ends three months after the month in which the member turned 65.
