Sam's Club pharmacy termination in commercial, marketplace, and Medicaid products
Effective Nov. 24, 2020, UPMC Health Plan members in our commercial, marketplace and Medicaid products (MA/CHC/CHIP) will no longer have access to Sam’s Club pharmacy as a participating provider. The network agreement between Sam's Club and Express Scripts Inc. (ESI) has expired.
This does NOT affect Medicare or SNP members. Sam’s Club will continue to participate in the Medicare Preferred Value Network as a preferred pharmacy.
Please note that:
- Walmart still participates in all of our pharmacy networks.
- In October, letters were mailed to members who had used a Sam’s Club pharmacy in the past 120 days.
- The expiration of the network contract between Sam’s Club and ESI affects all ESI clients using the ESI national network. It is not specific to UPMC Health Plan.
- Members must transfer to a participating pharmacy by Nov. 24. Members who continue to use Sam’s Club pharmacies after Nov. 24 cannot request reimbursement because Sam’s Club is no longer a participating pharmacy. Member reimbursement requests would be limited to emergency situations and subject to out-of-network benefits.
