One county in our region has moved to the yellow phase in reopening without the governor's permission.

That one being Lebanon County.

CBS 21 spoke with business owners who decided to open up shop.

Closed shops are an all too familiar sight nowadays because of the coronavirus.

"I applied for the self employed unemployment, never came through, which I know is a lot of people," said Sherry Giorgio. She opened her antique store this weekend in Annville.

The Lebanon County DA announced last week she wouldn't prosecute businesses who would open.

"I had many customers in yesterday, and already started today before I opened up outside, people already stopping by," Giorgio said.

Her store isn't the only one back in business.

"I get emotional just talking about it because they’re heroes to us," said Laura Lemon of Kreamer Bros. Furniture. She's talking about officials who supported moving to the yellow phase.

Her family feared for their store being closed for so long.

"We’re a third generation family run business, and there’s dad and grandpa and our great uncle over there, their pictures," Lemon said. "This is our life."

Customers I spoke to were on the same page with the open stores.

"I don’t really know if waiting is going to make a difference when other counties are opening, and you can’t really stop people from driving around and traveling," said Holly Russell from Palmyra.

Giorgio says they're following health guidelines.

Hand sanitizer and cleaning wipes all close by, and only five people will be allowed in the store at on time.

"This is all I do, I have maybe a few part time jobs just to get by," Giorgio said. "I go to auctions and I run this business all by myself, no other employees. This is how I make a living and I need to get back to work."
