Last month we announced several underwriting actions in response to the unprecedented challenges created by COVID-19.

Even though those guidelines are still in place, we want to touch base with you and share encouraging news from some key areas. We also wanted to put several of the bulletins and resources together for you for easier access — see the links to the right. We have updated the Field Underwriting Guide where appropriate to help with some of these changes.

Following the April 8 actions, our Sales, Case Management and Underwriting teams reached out to their key agency contacts to review impacted cases, discuss options and find solutions when possible. This close collaboration continues and we appreciate your partnership and feedback.

For cases that were postponed due to upcoming international travel, we are able to proceed if proof of travel-cancellation is provided and the travel was the only reason for the postponement.

We have had good results in finding alternative data sources for the APS requirement, resulting in our ability to review an increased number of applications over the past several weeks.

Our paramedical vendors are increasingly reporting resumption of operations in some states and regions. We expect this to continue as more state and local governments lift or relax their restrictions.

We will continue to monitor the fast-moving developments around COVID-19 and keep you updated as we adjust our underwriting guidelines. Our intention is to revert to our standard guidelines as quickly as circumstances allow.
