Cigna covers cost of COVID-19 tests for customers

 

To support our commitment to give peace of mind to those we serve, Cigna is taking important measures to address risks associated with COVID-19.

 

Cigna customers will have access to COVID-19 testing, as prescribed by health practitioners, and the company will waive all copays or cost-shares to help fight the rapid spread of the virus in the U.S. and for our globally mobile customers. Cigna plans also cover treatment* associated with COVID-19 or similar diseases.

Medical Resources for Customers

 

·     Cigna has set-up a 24-hour Health Information Line to connect customers to a nurse advocate. 1 (800) 244-6224.

 

·     Customers can access on-demand telehealth medical attention, as appropriate, via mycigna.com then selecting the "Connect Now" option.

 

·     Understanding this may be a stressful time, and mental and physical health go hand in hand, Cigna has also opened a 24-hour behavioral health help line, 866.912.1687, to allow customers and family members to speak with qualified clinicians about how to cope with anxiety, stress, or other issues related to the impact of the COVID-19. 

 

 

COVID-19 Testing

·     Cigna will waive co-pays, coinsurance, or deductibles associated with COVID-19 testing for customers enrolled in Medicare Advantage, as well as fully-insured employer-sponsored plans in the U.S., Medicaid, and Individual & Family plans available through the Affordable Care Act.

·     The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that COVID-19 testing may be performed on patients with a doctor's approval.

·     Current testing is available through the CDC and is being offered at no cost.

·     A commercial test for COVID-19 is also now available through Laboratory Corporation of America (LabCorp) and Quest Diagnostics (Quest).

·     All suspected COVID-19 specimens will be collected at by health care professionals such as physician offices and hospitals and sent to the laboratories of LabCorp or Quest. Specimens for the commercial test will not be collected directly at LabCorp or Quest locations. 

·     Procedure codes for health care providers and hospitals are expected to be available April 1, 2020.

To help contain the spread of COVID-19 globally, the Cigna Foundation is donating $250,000 USD to local organizations to help deliver much-needed medical supplies and insurance coverage to hospital staff and customers in Wuhan and other affected areas.
