Health, Allegheny Health Network (AHN) and Johns Hopkins
Medicine Expand Collaboration
Highmark Health, AHN, and Johns Hopkins
announced an expanded collaboration between the
organizations that will focus on gynecologic care and maternal
fetal medicine, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
(COPD) and lung transplantation.
The enhanced collaboration between AHN and Johns Hopkins
Medicine builds on the success of the two organizations'
five-year cancer relationship, which has provided cancer
patients in the greater Pittsburgh region with more seamless
access to second opinions and clinical trials testing new
therapies at Hopkins. The relationship also enables clinicians
at both institutions to share knowledge and consult on patient
care.

Highmark
joins other Blue plans in making drugs
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
(and

Highmark
is among 18 Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurance plans
that are investing $55 million to create cheaper versions of
expensive generic drugs for consumers. The initiative will
begin by producing seven to 10 generic drugs and make them
available by early 2022.
Highmark is a founding member of a new unnamed subsidiary of
Civica Rx, which is designed to preserve member access to affordable
retail generic prescription drugs. Civica Rx, a nonprofit
generic drugmaker based in Salt Lake City, Utah, was formed in
2018 and has focused on alleviating prescription drug shortages
in hospitals and assuring the availability of low-cost generics
for Blue members.
