We recently announced that Prime Therapeutics (Prime) will be our new pharmacy benefits manager (PBM) starting January 1, 2020. You can learn more about Prime on their website. We’ll keep you posted as things unfold during the transition.

Your Employee Assistance Program Provider Wants to Meet You
This article was seen only by eligible small groups.
Soon, Mazzitti & Sullivan EAP will email you a reminder about your exclusive access to an employee assistance program (EAP) for your eligible employees.* At no additional cost to you, your employees can take advantage of four free counseling sessions to help them with any work or life-related issues.

Mazzitti & Sullivan EAP's email will include instructions for their short sign up. Your employees can call that same day! To learn more, visit mseap.com.
*An eligible employee has medical coverage with Capital BlueCross and is covered under a PPACA-compliant fully insured Small Group (1–50) product. Those members with Senior medical are not eligible; however, any dependents with medical coverage can use the EAP.

Doing More to Fight the Opioid Epidemic: Drug Take Back
In the past year, over 6 million people have used prescription drugs for a nonmedical purpose. (That’s nearly the entire population of New York City.) Most of them got the drugs from a friend or family member.*

To help curb this issue, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) started a twice-a-year National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. But in the midst of our country's growing opioid epidemic, twice a year is not enough.

That’s why we’re on a mission to make every day Drug Take-Back Day.

Help us get unsafe drugs out of homes and into hands that can dispose of them properly. Help us educate your employees by posting prescription drug disposal information. You can also direct them to the disposal location finder.

If you have questions about opioid use (for example, how much is too much, how do I know if I’m “abusing” my medication, etc.), talk with a healthcare provider. If you know you need help with your use of opioids, call Get Help Now at 800.662.HELP (4357).

Pharmacists Teach at Our Capital Blue Health and Wellness Centers
In the same spirit of Drug Take Back Day, our Capital Blue health and wellness centers are proud to host the Pharmacists Teach program for our local community members. Certified pharmacists volunteer their time to present facts, share stories, and offer guidance when it comes to prescription drugs—all in an effort to limit the abuse of medication.
On April 17 and April 24, pharmacists from the program will lead a discussion for parents about prescription drugs, how they impact children, and what parents can do to protect their children from abuse and misuse. Share this important opportunity with your employees who live near our Capital Blue locations.

Our Provider Finder Has a New Look
Next time our members use Provider Finder, not only will they find in-network doctors and labs that can save them money (as always), but they'll find it even easier to do so. Our provider search engine page has been updated with a new look for a better user experience. Take a peek.

Walk With Us! April 24 Is National Walk@Lunch Day
Pack your sneakers and encourage your employees to join us for a 30-minute walk on National Walk@Lunch Day. You can post this flyer at your work site. Maybe offer an incentive (like a discounted Fitbit from Blue365®)—or create some healthy interdepartmental competition. You can suggest holding a walking meeting; managers and employees may find it results in more creativity, clarity, and inspiration! Or just invite them to walk away from their desks for a while and enjoy the outdoor air.

Walking is known not only for its physical benefits, but it’s mental health benefits as well. It can lift spirits, brighten moods, increase energy, and improve productivity.
The Blue365® program is brought to you by the BlueCross BlueShield Association. The BlueCross BlueShield Association is an association of independent, locally operated BlueCross and/or BlueShield Companies. Blue365 offers access to savings on health and wellness products and services and other interesting items that members may purchase from independent vendors, which are different from covered benefits under your policies with Capital BlueCross and its family of companies, its contracts with Medicare, or any other applicable federal healthcare program.

Spotlight on Adult Obesity and How Virtual Care Can Help
This month, we’re focusing on healthy weight loss and management. Blue365 offers great discounts that can help, such as Fitbit health trackers, Nutrisystem, gym memberships, and meal planning with Sunbasket. But some of our members need more than discounts. Virtual Care offers counseling and psychiatry services that members can use from the comfort and safety of their home. This includes one-on-one sessions for anybody living with an eating disorder, such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia, or food addiction. Let your members know about Virtual Care using the posters, table tents, or videos in your employer toolkit.
Virtual Care is not available on CareConnect plans and Individual HMO plans. Member can refer to their Certificate of Coverage for benefit details. Copays and deductible may apply.

How Follow-Up Visits Save Lives and Money
An employee needs time off for a follow-up visit after getting a procedure done. She’ll be gone for an hour and that’s 60 minutes of lost productivity, on top of what she already took off for the procedure. How much is this costing you?

Actually, this is good. A follow-up visit answers questions about care or new symptoms, opens discussion about medications, ensures proper care was given, and makes sure there are no new problems.

Here are a few ways you can help your employees stick to their doctor’s recommendation for a follow-up visit.

Consider a Corporate Clinic
When you have an onsite clinic, your employees never have to leave work to get the care they need. Onsite clinics also offer convenient and quick assistance for ailments that would otherwise send employees home and can lead to recognizing a bigger problem sooner. The payoffs could be significant.

Help employees find the time
When an employee makes it to their follow-up appointment, they could be avoiding an expensive emergency room visit. So encourage them to take the time off. Because they may be worried about losing pay or hours, offer flexible scheduling to make up time missed for appointments if possible.

Host Lunch and Learns
While Lunch and Learns can also focus on medications, vaccines, preventive care, emergency rooms versus urgent care, when they should call 911, etc., it also shows them that you support their need to follow up with their doctor. As an article on The Benefits Guide website states, “Don’t forget that not all of these things are obvious to all people. If they understand that there’s a huge cost differential between a scheduled doctor’s appointment and an emergency room visit, your employees will be less likely to head to the ER the next time their child comes down with a sore throat.”

360° of Health and Wellness: Shedding Unhealthy Pounds
This month, we focus on the consequences of adult obesity and importance of maintaining a healthy weight. We understand that shedding the pounds can be overwhelming. That's why we want members to know they aren't alone. They can read more at Capital Journal.
