In an effort to
provide premium rate consistency during the Medicare shopping
season, Highmark has elected to utilize an
off-calendar year rate renewal cycle for Medigap
Blue. Due to this change, the age-rate
increase and the annual Highmark rate increase will occur
on separate dates for this year only. Members may receive
two premium notifications this year. The monthly premium
amount for April 2019 to March 2020 will be mailed to members by
March 2019. Going forward, all Medigap rate increases
will be aligned to occur on April 1st.
To assist you
with educating your clients, please review the information below:
- Age-related increases that
normally impact members on January 1st will
still occur on January 1, 2019.
- The annual rate filing will
occur on April 1, 2019 and be in effect
until March 31, 2020 for any policies previously
on a calendar-year cycle.
- 2020 and beyond, the April
1st renewal date will include adjustments
for age-rated policies and annual rate filings, if
applicable.
