At Aetna, security is a top priority. In order to reduce the risk of data exposure, we require full-disk encryption on all broker devices (including laptops, personal computers (PCs), smartphones and tablets) that access or store Aetna and Joint Venture member data.
Beginning July 9, 2018, when you visit an Aetna broker website, the site will randomly direct you to download AlertSec ACCESS to your device - you won't receive this message every time you visit. AlertSec ACCESS is a locally installed client that verifies whether your device has active encryption software and reports back to the broker website. It does not monitor your device, does not have access to device data, and does not encrypt your device. There is no cost to download AlertSec ACCESS.
We are rolling out this program to Aetna broker websites in a phased approach. The initial sites impacted are Producer World® and Aetna Senior Supplemental Insurance (Medicare Supplement). Additional broker sites will be impacted over the course of several months.
During the roll-out phase beginning July 9, 2018, you will have the option to skip the download and continue directly to the site. At a future date, your device must have AlertSec ACCESS installed and full-disk encryption software activated in order to access these sites. We will communicate that date well in advance.
What is full-disk encryption?
Full-disk encryption helps keep your device secure by automatically converting everything stored on it into a form that cannot be read by anyone who does not have the password to undo the conversion. That way, if your device is stolen or improperly accessed, the data would not be legible to the intruder without your password, making it useless to them.
