I know May was Disability Awareness Month so you may be wondering why you are getting this in June – but I can’t help but think of how important Disability Programs are. In a recent polling of desired insurance programs by employees– Pet Insurance made the list and Long Term Disability didn’t – so distressing especially when 83% of working Americans prioritize protecting their family if they can’t work!

Disability Facts that concern me:

  • Less than ½ of adults indicate they have enough savings to cover 3 months of living expenses if they aren’t earning income
  • About ½ of adults say they can’t pay an unexpected bill of $400 without having to take out a loan or sell something.
  • 41% of bankruptcies have to do with medical bills or the illness/injury of a family member.
  • ¼ of 20 year olds will suffer a disability before they retire and the vast majority will NOT be work related
