Blue Distinction® Total Care Achieves Results
New findings published in April show that Blue Distinction Total Care—the nation’s largest network of value-based care programs—made measurable improvements in the management of chronic conditions like diabetes, asthma, and cardiovascular disease.

The program's success is further proven by the significant increase in preventive medicine, including pediatric health screenings and immunizations. If that hasn't impressed you, Total Care doctors, hospitals, and clinical care teams have decreased the medical cost trend by 35 percent compared to non-Total Care providers—considerable savings for plans and their members!

These results have been posted to BCBS.com and are being incorporated into sales support materials. Delve into the details!
Blue Distinction® Centers met overall quality measures for patient safety and outcomes, developed with input from the medical community. Blue Distinction® Centers+ also met cost measures that address consumers’ need for affordable healthcare. Individual outcomes may vary. National criteria is displayed on bcbs.com. Capital BlueCross may require additional criteria for facilities located in its own service area. To find out which services and providers (including hospital based physicians) are covered under your policy, or to learn about Local Blue Plan Criteria, contact Capital BlueCross; and contact your provider before making an appointment to verify its current Network and Blue Distinction Centers status. Each hospital’s Cost Index is calculated separately, based on data from Capital BlueCross. Hospitals in portions of CA, ID, NY, PA, and WA may lie in areas served by two Local Blue Plans, resulting in two Cost Index figures; and Capital BlueCross decides whether all hospitals in these areas must meet Blue Distinction Centers+ national criteria for one or both Cost Index figures. Neither BlueCross BlueShield Association nor any Blue Plans are responsible for damages, losses, or noncovered charges resulting from Blue Distinction or other provider finder information or care received from Blue Distinction or other providers. To find out more, contact Capital BlueCross.

Flip That, Reverse It: IRS Reinstates Previous HSA Maximum
You may remember that in March, the IRS decreased the 2018 HSA family contribution maximum by $50 from $6,900 to $6,850. Hold on to your hats, because the IRS has since reversed that decision, reinstating this year’s maximum to $6,900.

On May 2, BenefitWalletCapital BlueCross' HSA Administrator—notified HSA groups and members on its email distribution list and continues to update all instances of the March announcement. Fortunately, members were not yet given refunds, so no follow up needs to take place.

Members who want to contribute to the $6,900 family maximum are reminded to update their recurring contribution commitments
.

Thanks for keeping us on our toes, IRS!
