After careful consideration, we will no longer renew Aetna and Coventry transitional relief plans (also known as Keep What You Have - KWYH - plans) beginning September 1, 2018.* When we began offering KWYH plans four years ago, we did so understanding that these plans were to help ease the transition to Affordable Care Act (ACA) plans and not a permanent alternative. We will provide a new business proposal for our Small Group ACA plans along with our Small Group Aetna Funding Advantage (AFA) plans to eligible KWYH customers well before their coverage ends.
What happens next
We will begin to send letters to impacted Aetna and Coventry Small Group customers - starting with customers with September 1, 2018 through November 15, 2018 renewal dates. These letters explain that we will no longer offer KWYH plans. Letters to customers with December 2018 and January 2019 renewal dates will follow.
Coventry KWYH customers with September and October renewal dates will have the opportunity to keep their current coverage in force until October 31, 2018 to allow for more time to consider their options. Aetna KWYH customers with September and October renewal dates will not have the option to keep their coverage in force until October 31, 2018; however, we will provide alternative options well in advance of their renewal dates.
In addition, we will provide a new business proposal for our Small Group ACA plans, along with our Small Group Aetna Funding Advantage (AFA) plans to eligible customers, before their coverage ends.** AFA self-funded plans offer cost control, flexibility and simplicity to small businesses with 5 to 50 employees.
