Under a joint venture with a medical equipment company in western Pennsylvania, UPMC Pinnacle has launched Medcare Susquehanna Valley LLC, the Harrisburg-based health system’s first step into the growing market for home medical equipment.

UPMC Pinnacle’s partner in the venture is Medcare Equipment Co. LLC, based in Greensburg and doing business in western Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio, northern West Virginia and southern New York.

MedCare Equipment itself is a partnership among Pittsburgh-based UPMC and a number of other Pennsylvania health systems and hospitals: Excela Health, Conemaugh Health System/Duke LifePoint, Heritage Valley Health System, Butler Health System, Washington Health System, St. Clair Hospital and Indiana Regional Medical Center, according to UPMC Pinnacle spokesperson Keria Meals.

The new entity in Central Pennsylvania, MedCare Susquehanna Valley, sells products and services for use in homes, nursing homes, physician offices and other health care settings.

It is based out of a 14,400 square-foot building at 381 Independence Ave. in Upper Allen Township, Cumberland County. The facility includes a warehouse, equipment cleaning and repair area, a CPAP fitting room and a retail area. Products also are available via delivery

The company expects to employ up to 38 people and will serve 10 counties: Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Fulton, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, Snyder, and York, according to Meals.

“We will expand our distribution locations/network based upon the needs of our patients/customers,” Meals wrote in an email.
