Update: April, May, and June 2018 Renewals

On April 9, 2018, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released a policy update that extends the transition to Affordable Care Act Compliant policies for one additional year for small group employers. CMS is extending its transitional policy to policy years beginning on or before October 1, 2019, provided that all such polices not extend past December 31, 2019. A link is provided below to the CMS policy bulletin update. On April 11, the Pennsylvania Insurance Department announced their endorsement of the extended CMS transitional policy for individual and small group policies in Pennsylvania.

As a result of this update, UPMC Health Plan will offer groups the option to amend the term of previously released April, May, and June 2018 medically underwritten small group (2-50) renewals. These renewals were previously shortened to December 31, 2018 to accommodate prior CMS policy end-date guidelines. We will now provide these groups with an amended 12-month renewal offer (based on their current effective date). If a group does not return a new, signed renewal offer, the previously accepted renewal period of less than 12 months (ending on December 31, 2018) will continue to apply.

All future renewals for the rest of 2018 will receive a 12-month renewal, EXCEPT those groups that renewed in November and December of 2017 and took a 13 or 14-month (12+1 or 12+2) quote extension. These groups will renew on January 1, 2019.

Your small market account manager will be contacting you and will provide the revised 12-month renewals for April, May, and June 2018.
