SAINT VINCENT HOSPITAL TERMINATES UPMC CONTRACT
In an announcement made today, April 16, 2018, Allegheny Health Network’s Saint Vincent Hospital in Erie has informed UPMC Health Plan that effective July 1, 2019, it will no longer accept UPMC Health Plan Commercial members at in-network rates; the same will be true for UPMC Health Plan Medicare Advantage members, effective January 1, 2020.
This announcement was made to help bring clarity to the market about access to care for members in the Erie region. These dates are aligned with the dates set forth as part of the Consent Decree which guides the relationship between Highmark and UPMC, and ends for commercially insured members at the end of June 2019.
We value the relationships we have with our members and group customers in Erie and are eager to continue introducing them to the new and emerging capabilities at Saint Vincent Hospital that already provides extremely high-quality care. That’s why Highmark has invested more than $200 million in Erie’s health care infrastructure, including Saint Vincent’s new Emergency Department and Operating Suites building, the AHN Cancer Institute at Saint Vincent, a new Women and Infants Center and a new East Side Health + Wellness Pavilion.
