Highmark Freedom Blue PPO - Out of Area Provider Update

As you may be aware, Highmark’s Freedom Blue PPO plans provide access to a network of participating providers in 35 states and Puerto Rico. This is because Blues Plans across the country share their Medicare Advantage PPO networks, which allows Highmark’s Freedom Blue PPO members to visit a participating provider and pay in-network rates for covered services.

Effective July 22^nd, the process to search for an out of area provider on Highmark’s online directory website changed. Moving forward, when a user searches for Freedom Blue PPO providers, the results will display participating providers within the Highmark service area. The search results page will also include a message notifying the user that there may be other providers outside of Highmark’s service area and provide a link to the National Doctor and Hospital Finders from the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association.
