The Danville-based health system also plans to hire caretakers and physicians as well as non-clinical positions, the company announced Wednesday.

More details on the available positions and total hires for Geisinger Holy Spirit in East Pennsboro Township will be released in the next day or two, according to spokesman Mike Ferlazzo.

Across its entire footprint in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, Geisinger intends to hire 2,000 people in 2017, but hiring could stretch into 2018 as it seeks to fill some hard-to-find positions, such as physicians, according to Julene Campion, vice president of talent management at Geisinger.

The hiring spree is in addition to a recruitment campaign Geisinger announced in September to hire 1,500 employees. Since that announcement, Geisinger has already hired close to 2,000 employees, a news release said.

The health system wants to expand its workforce to support growth – in the past decade Geisinger has grown from two to 12 hospitals and expanded its service area to 45 counties in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Geisinger employs more than 30,000 people, including more than 1,600 physicians.

“Geisinger prides itself in innovation, quality and service to create the perfect patient experience, and as patient needs evolve so must our workforce,” Campion said. “We are committed to bringing in the best health care professionals to continue providing the outstanding care our communities have come to expect from Geisinger.”
