Independence Blue Cross Consumer Broker Commissions

Good afternoon.  Please find below important information from Independence Blue Cross pertaining to the individual market.

Attached below is the new 2017 Consumer Broker commissions schedule. Outlined in the PowerPoint is the total payout, producer payout and GA payout. We also included average premiums to use as a frame of reference of the payouts since premiums have increased year over year.

Key highlights:

  • Independence is the ONLY carrier who, not only will offer health insurance on the marketplace, will continue to pay commissions to our broker partners
  • We will pay commission on renewing business only. Commissions are not being offered on new to blue members during the 2017 plan year (during OEP and SEP).
  • Independence continues to understand and value the importance of our brokers within the consumer space to help members select and renew the plan that best fits their needs
  • With the removal of HMO Silver Proactive Value and HMO Bronze products off the marketplace, members who are enrolled on exchange with those plans will be defaulted into HMO Silver Proactive. With subsidies raising in our market in 2017, that allows members to be in a higher premium product without the burden of paying the full premium price. Commissions are paid on the full premium amount, so that membership would yield a higher commission payment.
