Upcoming SBC template changes for Aetna business segments

On April 6, 2016, the Departments of Health and Human Services (HHS), Labor (DOL) and Treasury have released new Summary of Benefits and Coverage (SBC) templates, instructions, and Uniform Glossary. The changes include an additional coverage example and language and terms to improve consumers’ understanding of their health coverage.

The new SBC template will be applicable on the first open enrollment period that begins on/after 4/1/17. For plans/policies that do not use an open enrollment period, the SBC will be applicable beginning on plan years or policy years on/after 4/1/17.

Aetna Small Group will implement these changes earlier than required beginning with plan/policy year on/after 1/1/17.
