Member cancellation process


If a Highmark member chooses to cancel their Highmark plan and enroll with another carrier, there may be some steps the member must take in order to ensure their Highmark plan does not renew.

 

The necessary steps depend on the situation:

  • Highmark plan on-Marketplace to other carrier's plan on-Marketplace

No action needs to be taken. Highmark will receive a file from the Marketplace advising not to renew the member.

  • Highmark plan on-Marketplace to other carrier's plan off-Marketplace: 

The member must contact the Marketplace 15 days prior to Jan. 1, 2016 to request the Marketplace process the cancellation. Highmark cannot process cancellations for on-Marketplace plans.

  • Highmark plan off-Marketplace to other carrier's plan (on- or off-Marketplace)
The member must contact Highmark member services, by calling the number on the back of their member ID card, no later than Dec. 31, 2015 to request a cancellation.
 
If members are choosing to enroll with another carrier, it is critical they properly cancel their existing Highmark plan. If a member does not cancel their plan properly, they will be billed (or charged, if they are on auto-payment), and could receive new ID cards and benefit booklets. If a member enrolled in auto-payment through eBill, they should cancel their recurring payment before the January due date to ensure payment does not process.

Please communicate the importance of this process to your Highmark clients who choose to enroll with another carrier.

Rate cards available on the producer portal

 

Blue Edge Dental rate cards for new clients with effective dates Jan. 1, 2016 through June 1, 2016 are now available in the Resources section of the producer portal and Plan Advisor (for groups 2-50).

Active Choice Home Delivery frequently asked questions available

As described in the 2016 product trainings, beginning Jan. 1, 2016, Highmark together with Express Scripts will implement an Active Choice Home Delivery program for members in certain market segments filling maintenance prescription drugs. Maintenance prescription drugs are considered those taken on a regular basis and are appropriate for a 90-day supply.  

Under the Active Choice program, a member must declare a choice to have their maintenance prescriptions filled either by home delivery through Express Scripts PharmacySM, or to pick up their prescriptions at a local retail pharmacy.
