ADDITIONAL OPTION FOR CLIENTS WITH 51-100 EMPLOYEES WHO FALL UNDER NEW DEFINITION OF SMALL GROUP AS OF JAN. 1, 2016

 

Clients can renew their existing Highmark large group policy in 2016, and it will have "grandmothered" status (meaning that the policy would not be required to include certain ACA small group market requirements). Clients elect this option by renewing their policy by Oct. 1, 2016. 

 

They can request that their grandmothered policy renew and begin a new policy year beginning Oct. 1, 2016 (all benefits and accumulators will reset). Please note that rate changes may apply. This means:

  • Clients who renew with grandmothered status between Jan. 1, 2016 and Sept. 1, 2016 can renew again and start a new policy year with Highmark on Oct. 1, 2016
  • Clients who have Nov. 1, 2016 and Dec. 1, 2016 renewals can renew their policy with grandmothered status and start a new policy year on Oct. 1, 2016

As previously communicated, these groups can still receive the advantages of purchasing a new policy now with an Oct. 1, 2015 effective date, and renew that policy again on Oct. 1, 2016, under the 2015 Advance Option.
