CPAHU April CE Meeting and Day on the Hill Rally – April 20th

Join us April 20th at the Penn National Hollywood Casino in Grantville for our CE meeting and CPAHU Day on the Hill Rally. The meeting will have two CE credits with PAHU lobbyist Mr. Vince Phillips.

The tentative agenda is as follows:

  • 12:30 pm - 1:00 pm: Registration
  • 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm: Speaker Vince Phillips - FEDERAL INSURANCE LEGISLATION (#115413) The greatest consequence of the passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) may be a huge shift to a federally regulated health insurance system instead of state. Despite Federals taking center stage, there are also a myriad of state insurance issues to be addressed, both free-standing and dealing with the implementation of the new Federal law. This course will also help insurance agents understand PPACA’s provisions and will concentrate on its implementation impact to Pennsylvania employers and insurance producers.
  • 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm: Mixer and Session break
  • 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm: CPAHU Day on the Hill Rally.

Tickets:

  • $40.00 Member Ticket
  • $70.00 Guest Ticket
  • $250.00 Bronze Sponsor
  • $500.00 Silver Sponsor

CPAHU Day on the Hill – April 21st

On Tuesday April 21, your Association is inviting you to make a difference here in Pennsylvania.

The Administration in Washington keeps changing PPACA implementation dates and rules:

  • The U.S. Congress is deciding whether or not to undo PPACA’s 30-hour work week as full-time and change the age rating formula, eliminate agent compensation from the Medical Loss Ratio calculation, etc.
  • The Supreme Court is thinking about whether or not to invalidate the tax subsidy in states like PA which use the Federal exchange.
  • The Pennsylvania General Assembly is considering legislation which can affect how your business operates and how you are able to help your clients.

Look at these priority issues:

  • Part of the Governor’s Budget proposal would tax professional services. Will you have to charge a sales tax to your clients and be a tax collector for the state?
  • PAHU insists that there be a firewall so that unlicensed Navigators, certified application counselors and “assisters” not do what licensed brokers do, sell, solicit, talk about insurance choices, and enroll people/small employers. Do you think that they should be required to register with the Insurance Department? Shouldn’t they undergo a criminal background check as brokers do?
  • There is legislation that creates a state Long-Term Council. Should not a long-term care insurance licensed broker be on that Council?

These issues should be enough incentive for you to clear your schedule and come to Harrisburg!

Itinerary

  • Before 8:00 a.m. Arrive at the PA State Museum
  • 8:00 – 8:45 a.m. Briefing on issues and on how to communicate effectively with legislators
  • 8:45 – 9:00 a.m. Walk to Capitol, Security Screening; Appointments begin
  • 9:00 - 2:00 p.m. Meetings with lawmakers, committee chairmen and others
